The XLX Single-Acting Crank-Arm Piston Pneumatic Actuator is a spring-return pneumatic actuator designed for reliable fail-safe automation of quarter-turn valves. It uses a piston and crank-arm transmission mechanism to convert the linear force generated by compressed air into 90° rotary output torque. When the air supply is interrupted, the integrated spring assembly automatically returns the actuator to its preset safety position, providing Fail-Close (FC) or Fail-Open (FO) operation.
XLX Single-Acting Crank-Arm Pneumatic Actuator – Working Principle
Normal Operation: Compressed air enters the cylinder and drives the piston against the spring force. The piston moves linearly and transfers its thrust through the connecting rod and crank-arm mechanism, rotating the output shaft to open or close the valve.
Air Failure: When the air supply is interrupted, the preloaded springs release their stored energy and drive the piston back to its original position. The output shaft automatically rotates to the preset fail-safe position, helping meet process safety interlock requirements.
A pneumatic actuator converts the energy of compressed air into mechanical motion, enabling the valve to open, close, or continuously modulate its position for reliable and automated valve control.
