The Pneumatic Three-Way Control Valve is a high-performance industrial control valve designed for fluid mixing, flow diverting and process switching applications. Featuring a sleeve-guided pressure-unbalanced trim, it provides accurate flow regulation, stable operation and excellent durability in demanding industrial systems.
Available in both three-way mixing valve and three-way diverting valve configurations, this valve is widely used for controlling steam, water, gas and process fluids in applications requiring efficient flow distribution or combination.
Two Operating Modes and Working Principles of Pneumatic Three-Way Control Valve
Three-Way Mixing Control Valve:The Three-Way Mixing Control Valve is the most commonly used configuration for mixing hot and cold fluids to achieve precise and stable temperature control. It features two inlet ports and one outlet port. For example, hot water and cold water can be continuously mixed at a controlled ratio to maintain a constant outlet temperature. With a standard 4–20 mA control signal, a 4 mA signal fully opens Flow Path A and closes Flow Path B; a 12 mA signal positions both flow paths at approximately equal openings for balanced mixing; and a 20 mA signal closes Flow Path A and fully opens Flow Path B. As the valve position changes continuously, the mixing ratio of the two fluid streams can be precisely adjusted, ensuring stable outlet temperature control. Typical applications include heating and heat exchange systems, hot water units, HVAC systems, and industrial process circulating water temperature control.
Three-Way Diverting Control Valve:The Three-Way Diverting Control Valve is designed to divide one process fluid stream into two separate flow paths. It features one inlet port and two outlet ports. For example, high-temperature hot water enters through the main inlet, with one outlet directing flow through a heat exchanger while the other outlet routes flow through a bypass line. By continuously adjusting the bypass flow rate, the valve regulates heat exchanger load, heat transfer capacity, and process temperature. It is important to note that three-way diverting valves and three-way mixing valves have different pressure ratings, allowable differential pressure characteristics, internal trim configurations, and flow arrangements. Therefore, the two valve types are designed for different service conditions and should not be interchanged or used as direct substitutes.
