Product details

The Side-Mounted Handwheel Piston Linear Pneumatic Actuator is a combined valve actuation solution that integrates a side-mounted manual handwheel override with a standard piston linear pneumatic actuator. It retains full automatic pneumatic control while providing reliable local manual operation for emergency situations and maintenance. Designed for linear-stroke valves where top clearance is limited and side access is preferred, it is widely used with industrial gate valves, globe valves, and diaphragm valves.

Working Principle of Side-Mounted Handwheel Piston Linear Pneumatic Actuator
The Side-Mounted Handwheel Piston Linear Pneumatic Actuator combines two independent drive systems: automatic pneumatic actuation and a side-mounted manual handwheel override. The two systems operate independently, allowing seamless switching between normal automatic operation and manual operation for emergency, commissioning, or maintenance applications.

Automatic Pneumatic Operation:During normal operation, the handwheel mechanism remains disengaged and does not add mechanical resistance. Filtered and regulated compressed air is distributed through a solenoid valve or valve positioner to the actuator chambers, driving the piston and valve stem in a linear motion for valve opening, closing, and precise position control. Double-acting models provide bidirectional pneumatic operation, while single-acting models use a return spring for fail-safe operation.

Manual Handwheel Override:When pneumatic operation is unavailable due to air or power failure, component malfunction, commissioning, or maintenance, the side-mounted handwheel can be engaged for manual valve control. Its gear and screw mechanism converts rotary motion into linear thrust, allowing precise full-open, full-close, or intermediate valve positioning. The self-locking mechanism prevents unintended valve movement and maintains the selected valve position. Once pneumatic power is restored, the handwheel can be disengaged, allowing the actuator to return to automatic operation without removal or recalibration.

Product Specifications

A pneumatic actuator converts the energy of compressed air into mechanical motion, enabling the valve to open, close, or continuously modulate its position for reliable and automated valve control. Key Features of Side-Mounted Handwheel Piston Linear Pneumatic Actuators
Independent Pneumatic & Manual Operation:The actuator combines automatic pneumatic actuation with a side-mounted manual handwheel override. The two drive systems operate independently, with the handwheel fully disengaged during pneumatic operation to ensure fast response, accurate control, and stable pneumatic performance.

Space-Saving Side-Mounted Design:The side-mounted handwheel eliminates the need for additional top clearance, making it ideal for compact installations, crowded pipelines, limited headroom, and applications where top access is restricted.

Reliable Emergency Manual Override:Provides both automatic pneumatic and local manual operation. In the event of air or power failure, solenoid valve or positioner malfunction, the handwheel enables manual valve operation for process isolation, pressure relief, commissioning, and maintenance.

Precise Gear-and-Screw Transmission:The gear and screw mechanism provides smooth, accurate valve positioning from fully open to fully closed, including fine adjustment. A self-locking design prevents unintended valve movement caused by pressure fluctuations or fluid forces.

High-Performance Piston Actuation:Retains the high thrust, load capacity, durability, and temperature resistance of the standard piston linear pneumatic actuator. Compatible with 0.4–0.7 MPa industrial air supply and available in Fail Close (FC), Fail Open (FO), and Fail Lock (FL) configurations for on/off and precise throttling applications.
